South Sudan

one of the most traumatized nations in the world

Of its 13,000,000 people, more than 4,500,000 of these have lived or currently live as refugees (those living in border countries) or IDPs (internally displaced people, those living in country as refugees). South Sudan is the only country in the world that it is said that the entire population is traumatized.

4,000,000 of its people are malnourished and 1,500,000 are children who will not reach the age of 5 due to preventable diseases, impure water and lung diseases caused by cooking smoke and other pathogens. A 2023 Forbes article reported that South Sudan is number one globally of the top ten poorest countries in the world.

Though there has been an uneasy peace agreement since the most recent civil war, many South Sudanese still live as refugees in Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, the Central Africa Republic, Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Due to the outbreak of civil war in Sudan on April 15, 2023, 1,000,000 people have fled to South Sudan, thus creating another humanitarian crisis. Many of these refugees are South Sudanese who had taken refuge in Sudan to escape violence in their own country,
